All about ethanol, ethanol fuel

The Advent of the Ethanol Car

The engines of cars that are powered with ethanol actually work very similar in comparison with engines that use normal gasoline. This appears to give these ethanol-powered engines great alternative fuel option, especially within times like nowadays, when the prices of regular gas are rather high. The only difference that actually matters is that ethanol-powered engines utilize the bio fuel ethanol, in preference of oil-based gasoline. The ethanol fuel is produced from plants like sugarcane, corn and similar, and finally it is purified into an alcohol. The alcohol that comes as a result of purification process is applicable for use as a bio fuel within various types of vehicles.

Hybrid cars engines (which more and more car manufacturers put into their offer) that use both ethanol and gasoline are titled as flex-fuel engines. The ethanol itself in injected toward the engine in the equal was as “regular” car engine. The ethanol engines do spend a slightly more fuel, but in direct comparison with gasoline, they pollute air less when the fuel is burned. If we consider further the difference between “regular” and flex-fuel engine, we can notice that ethanol-engine based cars are cheaper. Most modern cars can run on 10 percent ethanol-gasoline mixture, and it is good to know that the number of gas stations that offer ethanol is increasing. Some countries even allow only the use of ethanol.

If you want to use the ethanol in your car, there are lots of changes and modifications that must be performed on your cars’ engine. You will have to use ethanol fuel injection kit in order to use this type of alternative fuel. These kits can be purchased from many companies all across the world. The primary reason for kit investment is certainly the efficiency and increased longevity of the engine. These kits will not suffice with parts, though. The reason is simple; every car is different so it is clearly impossible to create standard kit that would completely fit all the engines. For example, you will need different clamps, size hoses and some other parts that you will need purchase separately. It is also important to mention that you should always consider quality parts from renowned manufacturers. You do not want you car to stop working when you need it most, our even worse, you do not want to have engine breakdown because of use of cheap and not quality engine parts. At the sole beginning, all the filters should be replaced. The spark plugs should also be checked, since there is a chance of misfires occurrence. After all of these have been made, the next task is to find fuel pump that will have the highest efficiency with ethanol. Most of these pumps use an ethanol-gasoline, although there are some more suited for the ethanol use. The carburetor should also be checked, since there are some that cannot handle ethanol. They will have to be replaced or modified accordingly.

If you are not experienced with car mechanics, take your car to mechanic, but only the one that has experience with this type of modifications. Finally, if you are ecological aware person and the cost does not present you barrier, it is time to consider modification of your car into the truly ethanol one.
